    Morning all,

I was wondering if anyone knows, as a general rule of thumb, what the average return per acre is for an typical midlands type farm. I'm interested to know the return for drystock only, sheep only and forestry only.

    Thanks. I

Honestly, from farm output alone, excluding BPS, glas and ANC the answer would be less than e100 /ac/yr and probably closer to zero. Alot of farms would be making a loss too.

Didn't Teagasc release data showing that subs were contributing up to ~130% of income on many farms meaning they were making a fair loss without subs.

On forestry, should the grants be excluded as when the 15 years are up they're gone & once it's in forestry it has to be replanted

As a farmer do you get 20 years grants? Or has this changed now?

If twas me doing the sums - I would include the grants, the cost of replanting would have to go against any clear fell income, to give a true picture...

Once you replant there is no grants, only income is thinning & clearfell.
All should be taken into account cos nobody knows what's around the corner
