Strength and conditioning classes

    Im thinking of signing up for strength and conditioning classes ..would these be any benefit for gael force training u think

    If you are already an accomplished cyclist/hill runner then i think there are benefits. Strength and conditioning is something which is generally done in the off season by cyclists/runners before serious training begins. If you are a novice then time on the bike/running would serve you better.

    Depends on what the strength & Conditioning class actually contains.

    Lots of gym's now are offering classes in S&C...they seem to be doing it because it's the fashionable thing to call classes at the moment. Many of the coaches have no background in S&C really.
    S&C is a fairly generic term so it's hard to know what the class entails and therefore hard to tell whether it will help your preparation.

    But taking a punt and guessing that there will be elements of strength work in the classes, then yes absolutely strength work will help in endurance events. There's heaps of evidence to support this showing that strengthening can aid running/cycling efficiency and can help with reduction in overuse injuries.
    Strengthening programme will help, but check out the coaches to ensure they know what they are doing first, then have a chat to them and tell them what you are doing. They should then be able to devise a training plan for you, or at least allow your endurance work to dovetail into their S&C classes.

    An S&C programme would be specific to you and specific to the event you're training for, a group 'S&C class' is a different thing, they can't really tailor it exactly for you, more than likely these S&C classes are circuits packaged up with a trendier name. And that is fine, so long as the coaches are doing the right thing in a safe manner and you let them know what you are doing so they can advise you.
