Is there any way of finding out how much data a programme will use to watch? Or can anyone guesstimate for me what a one-hour programme would use to stream from the RTE player. I can't see any way of downloading it using wifi for future watching.

The programme I want to see (The Crossing) is gone from the Sky TV player, but is still on the RTE player website.

However I don't want to blow my entire month's data on seeing it!

    Can anyone advise??? Thanks!

If on full HD quality setting around 3GB per hour, SD quality around 1GB per hour. If you went with the lowest quality setting maybe 300MB per hour but this is near unwatchable the picture is so poor.

    Hey Heidi,

You can get an indication of the sort of bytes/sec usage if you check the properties of your Ethernet/Wifi connection. It presents an interface like this.

Alternatively, there are a number of free apps that will let you monitor your downloads. What you're looking for is bandwidth monitoring. I've used the NetworkX one from this list and it worked fine.

Thirdly, if you know how to connect to your router there is usually some type of indication of bandwidth usage on that as well, but this depends on which device you have so I wouldnt be able to give specifics on that.
