    Hi lads (and ladies),

Not overly familiar with Lanzarote but currently on a beach here and noticing the planes taking off the same way they're coming in...? Is this normal?

    Seems strange!

I believe it is, once enough time has passed to prevent the wake of the previous airplane interfering with take off.

You should rent a bike and there's a great cycle trail out to arecife that goes past the airport. The planes literally fly about 150ft over your head, it's unreal

A great spot , I love it. At quiet enough times you will see arrivals & departures out over the sea.

When the wind is southerly, but not very strong, aircraft will still land on RWY03 (the approach over the sea) because it is much preferred than RWY21 (over rough land - turbulent and non ILS).

But will take off on RWY21, as taking off on RWY03 with a tailwind would potentially limit load and necessitate a diversion to Faro.

Southerly winds are fairly uncommon though, and they can often be strong brining foul weather and extremely difficult conditions for aircraft.

Some flights in the morning will use RWY21, particularly if they're just going to FUE.

Agree with KoolKid. Great spot to watch planes land at close proximity although it gets a bit monotonous after a while being mostly 737s 757s 320s and 321s (and ATRs of course!).

Mondays and Thursdays seem to be busiest.

Its a great spot to go down to the end of Matagorda and watch the landings on 03. Bring a good sun cream, you will get scorched out of it from both the sun and the wind.

Be careful what you wish for. You dont want them too low

Wow that was close. Surely bad judgement from the pilots there?

Spent a grand few hours there in 2015 with my camera.
