Bord na Mona reclaimed hundreds of acres near the Blue ball/ boora area might be worth a trip down to walk it....... well drained of course.

Keep open drains in it and you are better with 1/2 acre sections than with larger wans.also if you have a digger or are gettin a man in get him to pull in around 6 inches to a foot from the drain and slope the fields out towards the drains to allow water to run off

See what others have done with similar land. Talk to them.

Lime! As well as good drainage you will need lots of lime to increase the PH. Do a soil test and work from there.

Not recommended to have Ph above 5.5 on bog land

Will you put up some pics of the ground? What state is the neighbouring land in?

If you haven't deep draims your going to find it tough I made pipe drains with used tyres 6 ft down a few years ago and they are still flowing away.TAKE a while for them to block

If it is not as is land with a covering of turf there's little you can do. Rise the PH too much and the skin will leave the top of it and you will have a quagmire. If there is only a light covering of turf on it and it is relatively freedraining with a lot of fnain(white strawey type grass you see on this type of land) winter grazing with cattlevI help. To get the best of out of bog type grassland covered with heather etc winter grazing with some livestock is an advantage. You need to supplement to the minimum amount so cattle may stay a bit store ish. Grazing like this will clear heather and finain and allow more grassey area's to develop. For to achieve this you need cattle in a limited area however you do not want them poaching the ground very severely. There was some research done on this years ago with mixed grazing systems on mountains where cattle were grazed on the hill over the winter to improve grass quality for sheep.

Have you any better land you could spend the money on instead? Doing a bit of fencing, roadways etc on reasonable land is likely to give a better return than ploughing money into a bog...
