Will you be abusing alcohol this Christmas?

I dont drink myself but i know this time of year folk like to get a bit inebriated. And why not. Its our tradition, and the only way some people can have fun
It must be tough for people with alcohol dependence problems, a terrible time for families with alcoholics where festive cheer can come at a cost
Best of luck to all those who are fighting to stay off the demon drink this year !

I'll have the very odd drink but it'll be a fairly dry time. I can't drink anymore, I get savage hangovers so it's not worth it

I don't think, if you're alcohol dependant, you care about what time of year it is.

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

I'll abuse you if you don't get away from my 20 pack.

I've a can of Murphy's for cooking the spiced beef and a can of bulmers for the ham.
That's all my alcohol I'll be having lol.

^^ This, pretty much. I blame old age - the upside is that I now enjoy the few drinks I do have a lot more.
I expect that I'll have a glass of wine or a pint a day over the holidays.

I don't overindulge but I'll still have one for you. No need to thank me. Virtue is it's own reward.

5 or 6 cans tonight at home. About twice that through out the day tomorrow. Birthday on 27th, so will get hammered then and take a couple days to recover. No responsibilities till back to work middle January and so busy during year probably been to pub less than half a dozen times. So I feel I deserve to get wrecked. It's been a tough year.

I don't need it to have fun. However it's a damn quick short cut.

I went into the off licence in the supermarket while doing my shop this morning. I was looking for a bottle of coole swan. Unfortunately they were all out. Came out with a bottle of vodka and Bailey's instead. So I have a few bottles here but it certainly won't be abused. I might have a drink tonight. Maybe another tomorrow night. It certainly won't be abused anyways. I can't afford a hangover.

I think it was more a dig at Deedsie for calling people immature, irresponsilbe manchildren for getting drunk, which is anybody's own decision and perfectly fine so long as they're not harming anyone else.

I'm drinking as we speak and intend on doing so for the next week, all my friends are home from all over the world. Going out and having a few drinks is a great way to meet up and also catch up.

I'll drink a few honey flavored Jack and cokes during Christmas, but will not go beyond tipsy. I may get wasted on NYE as I haven't gotten drunk since October and sorta miss it. Stay safe and merry holidays to ya.

Thought the same with that comment even though may have been tongue in cheek.

I've seen alcohol tear my family apart. It ain't pretty. I like a social few drinks myself but most certainly do not look down on anyone who chooses not to drink. Each to their own. To many people think automatically if someone doesn't drink they are a dry ****e. Not the case at all and reflects their own immaturity more than anything.

Yea, many people choose to let go over the Xmas, I work 60-70 hours a week and just bought a home this year with my other half so had a quiet year, but I fully intend on letting my hair down this Xmas, and enjoying a few nights out, more than likely drunk with great friends! January 3rd il be back to the grind

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 221 ✭✭CaptainR

With it being €20 for 24 cans of Guinness in Lidl itd be impossible to stay sober sure. I wish everyone with alcohol issues the best of luck in 2017, and I hope you show us all how foolish we really are with pissing our dough against the wall.

    Merry Christmas everyone :)

Yea we had a tough 12 months, managed to scrape our deposit together by saving her wages for the year, I put in a lot of hour so we could get by. All worked out great in the end, we have a lovely home in a lovely area. Things couldn't be better.
    Thank you.
Happy Christmas to you and your family
