So says Colette Fitzpatrick of TV3. I'm a Dub, and I guess I'm ashamed to admit that I've only been to Coppers once. And no, I didn't get the shift there at least!

Have never been in Coppers myself and no real desire to go being honest. The whole club culture is becoming all too painfully cringey and the meat market nature of these places is beginning to make my skin crawl. There has to be better ways of meeting members of the opposite sex? (or same sex if that is what you are into)

Somehow i would doubt that CFJ's reputation is as extreme as Fitzpatrick makes it out to be. Around 2008/09, Coppers became the opposite of the self fulfilling prophecy it was all along. the women who frequented there became aware of its reputation and were less inclined to lob the gob on random men or so im told

Sher wasn't a causitive link established between increasing the lighting in Coppers by a mere 10% and reducing the prevalence of STD's amongst those of club going age.

THAT my friends is the extent of the cultural relevance of this place in Ireland.

To the uninitiated post Atari Jaguar generation, be aware..... the clap - it's not just a sound.

Is it better to give the clap or get the clap?

Read that article earlier. I really didn't get the whole point of it. Very random by a TV3 newsreader.

The media seem to advertise it as a sex club.

The odds are good, but the goods are odd.

If you're not fussy and want the ride, you'll do well in Coppers. Thing is, that's fine for a while but eventually most people grow out of it.

How do I change my username and how does Most Rev. Fr. Atoms for Peace sound?

did anyone see the article on the profits they are making in there...something like €96,000 a week!!! A WEEK!!!!

Is it worrying that I more impressed by that than the success in the shifting statistic??

She's hit 40 and is just trying to be down with the kids. She lets the mask slip though by still thinking Coppers and the Priesthood are relevant things. Kinda sad, really, the creeping recognition of her own mortality.

Ye, I think Oxegen comissioned the research.
Scientists say increasing lighting in Coppers by 10% will reduce Irish STI rates by 4,000%

Researchers from the Royal College of Surgeons this morning announced that Ireland could curb a recent increase in sexually transmitted infections by increasing visibility in a prominent Dublin nightspot.

The research team ran a host of rigorously controlled experiments, where the lighting levels in Copper Face Jack’s nightclub were increased by increments of 10%. The results were measured in terms of the resulting behavioural change in people both in the preliminary stages (i.e. kissing on the dancefloor) or final stages (stumbling towards the exit with a secured mate) of STI contraction.

The results showed that a lighting increase of even 10% caused individuals to immediately take a step back, revaluate the aesthetic integrity of the person they were until that point willing to have sex with, and in many cases excuse themselves from the situation.

Men were more likely to use excuses pertaining to “looking for the lads”, whereas women were more likely to excuse themselves on the grounds of needing to use the restroom.

However the scientists were certain that beneath the veneer of these excuses was the realisation for the individuals in question that they were about to get down and literally dirty.

Surprisingly, repeated experiments around different nightspots in Dublin did not yield similar results. The research team trialled their methods in 14 other nightclubs around the capital’s city centre and recorded negligible resultant behaviour changes from increasing lighting levels even as much as 60 or 70%.

When quizzed as to possible causes for the phenomenon only occurring in Coppers, the research team neglected to comment for legal reasons.

The people who say it's easy get the ride in Coppers are the people who never go like this 40 year old woman. For one thing I'd say there is a 3:1 ratio of men to women from what I seen when I've been there so do they maths.

I read that article in the Herald earlier, very strange indeed. I was expecting "This article contains a paid commercial advertisement" somewhere in the column.

Wouldn't mind getting the shift off Collette.

I cringe when I hear adults talking about getting the shift in coppers. Irish people are the worst.

I think reading that article just made that feeling much worse. What a nice article to read just before Christmas.

Biggest myth going. It's quite difficult actually to get a "shift" in that place let alone a "ride". If you're an average guy and you go there continuously every weekend, even with acting in full molestation mode you might only "shift" a woman once a month and "ride" a woman from there once a year (if you're lucky).

The myth that sexual activity is easy to procure for men goes with the myth that marriage is unnecessary. Since marriage is falling apart, and we want to think that's a good thing and is inconsequential, the idea that any guy can just go out to a club and get laid easily comes into being and becomes prevalent throughout the cultural sphere.

    Hang on! *gets calculator*

    * tap,tap tap tap*

Calculator says that forty year old woman is on to something from a womans point of view.

3 men for every woman = easy to get the ride (for woman).

Calculator also says the pope won't let woman join the priesthood. No,wait..I've got a recurring answer that says sinead o' connor (priest) ...fed up with calculator.

From a woman's point of view, how "easy" is it for them is not a valid proposition. It's like asking "how easy is it to get oxygen around here?" when you had to breath in some to say it. The question on the woman's side is (if anything) not, as for men, how many sexual resources can she get but, rather, how much of other resources can she get in exchange for her sexual resources.

Now, this is an interesting viewpoint. I think there may be truth in it when it comes to women who know /are confident in their allure to men.

I'm sure ,likewise that there are women who go for the guy they find they like over the loaded but not as personable guy.

What do the ladies here think?

Do you have friends who use their looks to get into a wallet ,but wouldnt' look twice at an ordinary Joe who you feel would be a great catch, looks, decency but financely middling ?

Yeah if a guy goes to Coppers every weekend and manages to pull every couple of months, does that make it an easy place to get the shift? There's all that leg work and rejections to put up with. It's like the guy who approaches a lot of Irish women only to get a rude response from half of them and then goes and says all Irish women are stuck up cows.

I went there once, got the shift three times.
    Interesting night.

I actually would have to disagree here, certainly among people my age women tend to actually like Coppers far more, with most groups of lads only reluctantly going if groups of their female friends are already committed to going there and can't be persuaded to change their minds.

That's all Dublin folk though. Maybe it's more popular with non-Dublin lads?
