Just wondering if anyone has taxed a 2008 onward commercial van privately and do the tax office look at it the same way as a car and tax it according to CO2 levels and not engine size. Have my mind set on a 2009 2.0 litre dispatch as i need something to put my CBR600 race bike in for track days here and in the UK. Can't tax it commercially as i won't be using it for work. Thanks in advance.

The CO2 tax was only brought in for tax category A (cars) so by default privately taxed vans are on CC rates whatever the year, so you're looking at €710 on that.

Have you considered a 'race camper'? A bit cheaper to run and handy for the races as you can sleep in it.

    Something like this:

Or if you have a truck licence:

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

If you get a camper big enough you get classed as an Agri and pay ~€50 per annum ;) IIRC the threshold is 3 Tonnes.

Thanks for that. Yeah i have the C licence but wouldnt have any interest in going down that route. I need something small enough to collect the kid from school and big enough to take the bike in the back. Looks like i might get it taxed as commercial and take the chance as no way im paying 700 plus. Thanks for the advice.

Also seen this online maybe people would consider signing it.

No worries, yep €710 v €390 on CO2 cars with that 2.0HDI engine.

You have to declare you will only use it for Commercial purposes.
