How much UK racing did RTÉ show? Surely this is good news for racing folk.

Anything for a swing at RTÉ though.

    From what I can recall,

RTE had the Cheltenham Festival and the Aintree Grand National.

So thats 5 days of the year i think..

They could stop taking the games SKY don't want, or can't be bothered showing..

They could start giving us some sort a value for money,,, As we all pay €4 every week.

If Gerry ever steps aside, and SF get some sway, we could ask Mary Lou to close down this D4 money pit.

€4 per week? €160, divided by 52 weeks, equals €3:07 per week.

Only to those who pay the TV licence and thus the mansions and expensive coke habits of rte presenters.

A lot more GAA than Sky do.

But not much other sport, alas.

That's why they'd be perfect for government...

And RTE would only be a news channel,, without ads .. none of that ""injury lawyers 4 u"" rubbish ..

But you said we all pay €4 per week. Only people that buy a TV stamp a week pay that and even then they still use the stamps to pay €160pa like everyone else.

Next time I ask for a TV stamp,, I'll tell the lady behind the bullitt proof glass that they should only be €3.06.

How much do you pay for your licence when you pay in stamps? My understanding is its still €160. That means you're paying €4 pew week but only for 40 weeks a year. Doesn't matter what you ask the lady. If you're paying €4 per week for 52 weeks of the year then you're doing it wrong.

Not bad for under €4 a week to me...

Sorry to burst your bubble but the requirement to have a licence for receiving apparatus has existed longer than the state.

So blame the Brits for introducing licences. Also TV license in the UK costs more.

Also RTE is still the highest rated channel here so you can blame the average viewer for the ***** they show. Yes they could ditch a lot of the "talent" or pay them current market rates "you think you're worth more, talk to TV3 or UTV or take the boat to London"

SKY target people addicted to sport and price their product accordingly.
Irish TV license raises €160m a year for all stations including orchestra and other stuff like the BAI etc. Meanwhile SKY and BT paid the Premiership, (one league in one sport in one of the countries in the UK ) , £5.136 Billion.
    Join the dots.

SKY don't contribute much to the Irish economy. In the past due to tax arrangements via other countries they used to contribute f*ck all. Look at how long the Irish SKY News lasted.

TG4 is the curates egg of TV. It varies between crap, meh and the best program right now across over 200 channels.

TV3 could get more license funding, all they need to do is produce more Irish content.

Personally I'd like the TV license replaced with a charge on electricity with an opt-out. It would save €10 a year on AnPost's fee and another 10-15% on evasion.
