Hi would love someones input on this. we are thinking of buying a Honda FRV 2ltr or 1.7 petrol automatic. Both have low mileage.
Has anyone any experience with this car and what is it like for fuel consumption. Thanks

I'm only quoting what I have read around these parts - which is that the 1.8 auto is a very reliable combination. Not too many of them around though, as I have been keeping my eye out for one. I think they started around 08.

Most of the automatic versions available are Japanese imports, make sure your insurance company is ok with them. I'd also take the low mileage on any Japanese import with a pinch of salt unless you can verify it on the original auction sheet from Japan. Nearly every Japanese import only manages to cover 50k/60k when they land here no matter how old they are. :pac:

I have owned an 08 petrol for a couple of years now. It's an 1799cc.

A great car, very reliable, comfortable, spacious without being huge to drive or Park. Great family car.

Only thing I would rate as a con for it is its power to weight ratio. It always feels underpowered. Not that I drive fast in it, but always feels sluggish.

As for mpg, most of my driving is short journeys, school runs etc. My readout tells me I usually average around 6.9l/100km, with best usually around 6.6 on long straight runs.

I have the 1.8l auto FR-V 2007. Great family car! Very reliable and comfortable to drive. Getting the kids in and out is a doddle. The 1.8l engine were fitted since 2007 and other than valve clearance check/regulation and spark plugs at 120k kilometres needs nothing (timing chain). Very, very happy with it.

We have a 2005 1.7 and are happy with it. It is not very economical (I do not have figures) with its boxy shape but is used mainly for short runs. It is reliable. The matter of it being underpowered is a matter of opinion - it is an MPV with 6 seats and very practical with its 3+3 seating arrangement, you don't buy one for performance, surely. IMO it has enough power and can accelerate and rev to red if you really need it to. Ours has 240,000 km. Our only issue apart from wear and tear parts was replacing the flasher unit which was integrated onto a bigger circuit board type thing and cost €400 (plus fitting) to replace. We intend to keep ours until it dies and would get another if they were still being made. My only other choice for MPV would probably be a Verso.

I will likely sell my 1.8 petrol (manual) sometime next year.

    Forgot the ;)

I don't think there's many 2.0 about , loads of 1.7 , I picked up a nice clean 08 few months back , been looking for ages for one it's 1.8 , bit heavy on petrol ⛽️ but I like to drive it , can't fault it at all , drive the edix model in auto found it to be bit slow on pick up ,

I also test drove a 1.8 auto, and decided to go for the manual instead.

Isn't the tax a bit rich on these, otherwise they are great.

The same as any other pre 2008 1.7/1.8 litre car.

Yes but I think even the 2008+ year is expensive. Maybe I'm wrong.

Yeah. €750 vs €636 on the old system. Ones regged in early 08 would be on cc tax.
