Is an internship worth it?

I'm currently an English teacher and considering changing up my career. I'd like to work in a big business, HR sounds interesting. But I don't have a background in this. I have a BA in History and English, a MA in History and International Relations and I have some foreign language skills.
Would doing an internship in HR be enough to deem me as a suitable candidate for any full time HR positions down the line? Or would further education be necessary?

You'll need a qualification before you're considered for a regular internship.

But with language skills, consider recruitment. If you have useful languages quals may not be an issue.
