Public sector job offer..

Probably been asked a million times but here we go again.

Worked in public sector on contract from 05 to 09, private sector from 09 to present but have a permanent job offer from public sector.

Problem I have is the new entrant bit. Salary offer is nearly 20k less than 09 as I appear to be classed as a new entrant.

Unless someone can tell me otherwise I assume this is simply a 'suck it up' scenario but what I basically want to know is , is there actually any end in sight for the new entrant minimum pay scale or will the agreement end and we can discuss payment based on experience again.

They may recognise your previous service in the Public Sector. You would need to get some information from previous public sector employer on your service.

As pay scales have a number of different points they could take into account your previous service by appointing you on a higher point on the pay scale.

They should recognise your earlier service.
I'll be moving from public to civil service and can carry over my time for the pay scale.

Not the same as that is a transfer. The OPS's question relates to a job being available at a set pay level. Were he/she still a PS employee there might be a possibility to gain from a transfer.

He/she could argue the case but unless the job requires specific experience, why wouldn't it go to someone who has less experience and is cheaper to hire?

When I received my civil service appointment and contract, there was a section referring to previous service. I had to send each department I worked in (as a temporary clerical officer) a verification of previous service form which they forwarded to the Increment Office of the department I have been appointed to, and I was informed my service was confirmed and I will start on 5th increment.

Without knowing the nature of your position or the office you were in, my advice is to contact the HR department and ask them directly.

Im not transferring. The time served carries into future employment generally.

As for cheaper.. that's not how the public service thinks.

Have you argued your case with HR>

If you accept the job you will be a member of the single pension scheme (this would be the same for anyone who joins the public/civil service on or after the 1st of January 2013 or had a break of more than 26 weeks from this date).
In relation to your previous service in the public service, at the moment it is not open to members of the single pension scheme to transfer this service however it may be open to you to use your previous service for incremental purposes. Contact the HR or payroll section and they will be able to advise you.

Does anyone know if time spent in the army will add to my pension and increment if I get job in Dublin city council

Coming in at minimum of scale and / or on a lower salary to existing staff is all part of the FEMPI measures.

That's why the teachers and guards are up in arms.

Have you a break in service of more than 6 months? If yes, you're likely to become a member of the Single Pension Scheme. As yet there are no mechanisms to transfer service between previous public service schemes and the SPS.

Did you receive a gratuity on leaving the army?

    DCC will advise.

Funny thing about this situation is that I'm the only non current public sector worker at the top end the panel so if I turn it down they will pay more for for the people below me who have less experience.

It is the way it is but not being overly familiar with Haddington road I'm wondering what happens when the agreement finishes or is this it??

Hr not willing to move so not leaving me with much of a choice really. You would imagine that if you got your first choice for marginally less than your second choice you're still winning but there you go.

Same here, I contacted my previous public sector employer for a letter but was put on point 3 not point 5, but it still helped.
