Currently at first fix electrics and looking for opinions on cameras and alarms.

Was thinking of a 4 camera poe system (just for ease of 1 cable) was going to run 8 cables to various points to future proof it? What do ppl think?

Is there any alarm system that I can tie everything into 1 unit? Smoke/carbon/heat and intruder alarm all together?

HIK Vision camera sister here. Get as good as you can afford with regards to MP figures to allow digital zooming etc

We ran Cat5 cables to them as they are true HD, any company that says you can run standard cable means they are just boosting the signal to the cameras and not getting true HD.

Run the cables from your proposed camera locations to a point in the attic. This is where the hard drive should be located. Last thing you want is a break in and the thief been able to singly pick up the hard drive from the bedroom and away goes any video evidence.

Also run another Enthernet cable from where your internet point is to the dvr box so you can connect directly to the net for remote viewing without the need for wifi extenders and boosters.

Thanks for that. Good point about the hard drive.

You need to do your research. There are multiple platforms that offer HD over coax (Hikvision Turbo upto 5MP) and the quality is superb. I've installed aprox 100 of these systems.

I have both systems running side by side and I find the one with the Cat 5 of greater quality.

You have two separate systems running side by side?

    Sure you do.

Yes. One Cat 5 system in the house and an older coaxial Turbo system in the factory. I can compare both systems side by side and the cat 5 system has noticably better clarity especially when zooming in on the recordings after the fact.

I can acces both systems from my phone.
I would strongly recommend running the Cat 5 cable instead of the older turbo boost systems. Maybe my technical terms may not be 100% correct but the Cat 5 system is better than the coaxial system especially if you have the scope to install during a build, heck there's possibly even a better system now that's more future proof.

*all systems are HIK systems installed by ADT so not by one of the fly by night facebook companies ;)
