I have started to buy quinoa, and loving the nutty flavour of it, I am wondering if people are familiar with it, I put it in my homemade burgers, flapjacks, stews, and so on, people don't realise I have it in their food, but trying to mix healthy ingredients with everyday food,
does anyone have any recipes for quinoa
I have a vegetarian in the home, and would like to make veggie burgers and dishes incorporating quinoa
    Any one have ideas

I have made this before, lovely!

Quinoa works also well as stuffing for peppers and other veg. Recently I started to add some cooked quinoa to my bread dough. Gives it a nice flavour and texture and I feel it keeps the bread fresher for longer.

I have started buying it too and I am mainly using it as an alternative to rice. May I ask where you buy it from?

I am buying it in Dunnes but its quite expensive and the packs a small. I was looking for somewhere I could buy it in bulk at a cheaper price.

Health food stores might be worth looking at, but I know Tesco do an own brand 300G pack for 2.50 or so in their wholefood range.

I buy in my local supervalue, love this stuff,
intend having it as 50% of my own stuffing this christmas, cutting down the bread content, it belongs to the spinach family which is a great thing, would love to know how to make a bread with it, and some nuts

This is a lovely dish, either as a side to chicken or just on its own.

    Do you cook it first?

yes, when adding to homemade burgers, cook first,
Usually you rinse it, then like rice you put in double the amount of liquid to the quinoa, then let come to the boil and simmer until it has absorbed the liquid,
This year I intend to cook it in water that thylme has been added to give it flavour and let it cool and treat it like breadcrumbs for stuffing, adding the butter, softened onions and little breadcrumbs.

This quinoa stuffing is tasty. My sister likes it in a roast chicken as wheat doesn't agree with her.

I use it as a low fat pizza base. Tastes great and so much healthier and filling.

There was a risotto challenge in an episode of Masterchef Australia a few years back set by Marco Pierre White, and this lady who won the challenge made it with quinoa.

You can find the recipe here :

I use a lot of quinoa but normally as a replacement for rice. Fried rice, kedgeree, biryani, sushi, etc...
I've made pizza base too, following a recipe available here on the cooking club.

    I pinned this recently

Haven't made it yet, but it has inspired me to add cooked quinoa to my seeded sourdough loaf and it definitely has improved the result. It was good before the addition, but is great now. The men in my house, who eye quinoa with suspicion agree wholeheartedly ;)
