Query About Alarm System Battery Backup

We have an Intellisense Securit 800L+ Control Panel. We never set the alarm because we had too many false alarms but I keep it live so that the two bell boxes flash.
Recently the control panel, not the keypad, has started making a two tone beep every 30 seconds or so ... which I assume is the battery needing replaced. The system has been installed for perhaps 12 years now.
My question is...how do I stop this? Is the only answer to replace the battery? Could I just take the battery out? Any suggestions?

If you take the battery out then it may continue to beep to say there's no battery.

    Is a replacement battery expensive?
They are easy to swap out once you have the battery.
