9 grand for a 143hp bmw with 150k miles on it just seems like madness to me :(

Those cars just have nothing going for them. You may not want a 5 series but here is an 08 sport 5 series for cheaper than an 09 319d ES that you linked to.

Much better car, a bit bigger and as I said you may not want one but it makes a 318d ES look very poor value.

Bmws are extremely spec sensitive, you can spot bottom of the range a mile off, paddy spec as many call them even though I hate the term it is true enough.

Sorry just noticed your first link has leather (318d ES) and your second is actually a 320d SE, but with a very standard cloth interior. I still think in non sport mode I would go for an a4 or a c class, probably c class. But even in them the sportier versions are miles ahead, 2 different cars really

The first one you linked is an edition se. It was an upgrade pack just before the facelift came in. Carbon black paint, leather as standard, m sort wheel and hearknob and a few other bits. I had one and while I liked it I always wished I'd held on for an m sport

I wouldn't touch either of those cars unless there is documented evidence that the timing chain has been replaced. Both have terrible miserable specs too btw.

QFT. Neither car really has much going for it to be fair. The second one is an import as well, wouldn't bother me in the slightest, but some may not like the mph clocks if you ever wanted to sell it.

post up your budget, whether 2 or 4 door, petrol or diesel, standard suspension of m-sport (msport is stiffer suspension).

which model are you after? you can get a 2012 F30 model 316D for your budget.......more power ie 320D you're looking at e90 model 2010-2011 depending on m-sport etc.
    F30 is newer than e90..
    here's a forum on the f30

As discussed in another thread here recently 12k won't get you much of a decent F30 3 Series unless you're willing to go to the UK.

What about above car, It have low mileage and full service history, Long NCT but only 122 BHP. This would be my first BMW.Should I consider it ?

    Are you sure that's not a 316d if it's 122 Bhp?
It's advertised as a 318d and I can't quite see the badge on the back.

    318d were 143 bhp, 320d 177 bhp

What exactly are you looking for in the car?

That's very expensive too for what is completely bottom of the range.

Not bad cars, and that one looks nice but it's going to disappoint you if you are looking for anything exciting.

It's just a co2 exercise really bringing out these underpowered versions.

    It's a 318d ES
Think they were 120bhp up to 08 and 140 after that.

The Co2 thing is very relevant for company car drivers.

Jesus, nearly 12k for a 8 year old base 3 Series. They are asking main dealer money, who are not known for giving them away.

    This 2009 520d is worth a look @10,900 if it's genuine:

Have a e90 320d. Great drive but timing chain can go on oretty much all thevdiesels n47 engine. Thats all the 1, 3, and 5 series. Just learned that the newer models are not much better. Timing chain anout 2K to change cos uts an engine out job on the diesels! thats if it doesnt snap and blow the entire engine. Therefore i helped my daughter source a nice e90 318i with low miles. Thought the petrols were ok. My indy BMW mechanic has now told me after changing the timing chain which had stretched and some nitrogen sensor also ,that they are all crap. Hes about 30 years doing BMWs.The 2 fixes cost about €1300. Also injectors and coils cause non stop probs. I dont mind the usual problems but these cars can just die anywhere and cost a fortune to fix.if If i didnt do all the smaller jobs in our cars the costs would be even worse. Think I may go boring japanese next!
