I don't know if this is the right place. I own an 06 skoda Octavia, recently bought a dashcam which plugs into the cigarette lighter. Just wondering is there a switch for the socket. Ive been plugging and unplugging the charger every day because the light stays lit when I turn off the engine. Don't want to break the socket or charger by plugging in and out the whole time

There's no factory fitted switch in there.

Install your own one or rewire a socket to switch on with ignition.

    Hi

I fitted a dashcam to my '12 Octavia.
There is a fusebox in mine on the right hand side , visible if you open the door.
You can get a kit that plugs into a spare fuse and the cable fits nicely behind the trim along the roof line and inside the rubber door seal.
What I did was buy another cigarette lighter socket, plugged dashcam into that and connected into fuse.
Remember to select fuse that is dead when the ignition is off.

Why do you want to turn it off?

It should be set to over right itself after all storage is used.

Probably worried it would drain the car battery.

Unlikely to happen unless the battery is knackered already and needing a jump every morning. They draw little to no current.

Are you sure it stays live all the time?
    I wouldn't have thought so.

They do or at least the one in my VW does and they're all the same or similar wiring I'd imagine

My Audi doesn't. It runs for a period after but certainly goes dead.

Bang goes my theory so. Perhaps it's year related or something but mine definitely stays on.

Very likely. Ms. jou's old Touran (04) had it permanently on, in the newer one (09) it goes on and off with ignition.

Yes VAG cars usually have constant 12v Socket(which is a good thing)... If you really want to turn it of which you probably should do every night! then just slip the micro plug out from the cam itself... Anyway as someone mentioned, just install a new 12v socket, very cheap online and easy to install, but I would definitely install the new one into a constant 12v again.. I think cam should always be running in shopping centre car parks etc.
