Full HD or UHD advice

    Hi,

I'm looking for some advice on a new TV.  We currently have a 42 inch Toshiba LED (bought in 2012) which is still working but the picture quality is terrible.  Blacks are either too bright or far too dark depending on the format (blu ray or Sky HD).  I've tried using the calibration tool on the Terminator 2 disc but this hasn't made much of a difference so I've decided enough is enough.

    Our budget isn't huge (€600 - €800 ideally).

I'm unsure as to whether the money would be better spent on a larger screen Full HD (50-55inch) model or a smaller UHD model (up to 50 inch).  We sit around 12-14 feet away from the screen and primarily watch Sky HD content.  Ideally I'm looking for something with really good picture quality and something which handles Sport in HD well (rugby, football and winter sports for herself)

The 3 models that I've identified are:
    Panasonic TX50DX700B - http://euro.richersounds.ie/p-201898-viera-tx50dx700b.aspx
    Samsung UE49KU6400 - http://euro.richersounds.ie/p-202044-ue49ku6400.aspx
    Sony KDL49WD751 - http:http://euro.richersounds.ie/p-202078-bravia-kdl49wd751.aspx

Would you consider these sets a good purchase?  Are we better off going for a larger Full HD or UHD model to future proof ourselves?

My brother lives near your store in Belfast so I would be asking him to pick the set up for me early next week before he's back for the holidays.

    Thanks.

You could also consider the http://euro.richersounds.ie/p-202261-55m5500.aspx Hisense 55m5500 for €750. 55" and ultra hd.
I never considered Hisense, how is the brand for quality?

    Phone 2000,

apologies for the awful delay getting back to you - especially given its such a simple question!

For me TX50DX700 every day of the week! Really stunning build quality and really excellent natural on screen movement.

apologies again for the delay and keep me posted if we can assist in any way,

    ATVB,

    Hi John,

Thanks so much for this - I'm happy to go with the Panasonic so I'll be in touch when I have confirmed that I can get the set collected.

    Thanks
