Large lampshade

I have been given a very large lampshade for a standard lamp which I would like to use.

However I only now realised that there does not seem to be a connector on the shade. It has a large wire ring about 10cm wide suspended just below the top of the shade. I fixed on a connector ring from another shade but the bulb sits at the very top of the shade and looks peculiar. I think there must be a bit missing to hold the shade in place higher on the pole, but I do not know what it is called. Can anyone help?

First thought... can you turn the shade upside down and attach it? That would mean the bulb would be nearer the middle of the shade.
    Does that make sense?

It partially makes sense, except that it is a very shaped share and would be very wrong upside down. It did cross my mind fleetingly though :)

That would have been way too easy!

Have a look at the fittings on this page:

If the decorative top attached to your fitting, it would mean that the bulb would be significantly lower within the lampshade (I think!).
Might give you some ideas for a diy solution, anyway!

Sorry this is me being useless with Google photos. I think the above will 'right click open in new tab' but not sure how to do it right.

Thanks, I am trying to sort it, this was supposed to avoid using an alternative system, but I seem to be missing something!
