Much land needed for entitlements

    I work 2 weeks on 2 off... my dad has a smallish farm 29ha 9 off those a wired in hill rest middling arable land... my problem is he just keeps his few cattle for the sub and that's it but I bought some sheep 40 ewes last year and still have 30 ewe lambs from them.... my father is feard this will affect his pension so I'm wondering how much land do I need till get my own flock number and entitlements.. I heard he can't lease me land for me till get a flock number is this true?

    He can lease you land.

    Get a proper lease drawn up, put a proper valuation on it, but there is some line you can put in the lease that's states "if demanded" or similar... it's some legal way of getting around the lease not being paid, and so affecting pension payments...

    Was in the same position as you some years ago, and that's what I was told to do.

    Check it out with a solicitor who knows about leases, just in case it's changed in the meantime, and also to get the correct wording...

    Oh, for me, there was a lease done, and the herd number and entitlements were transferred to me. I guess that made it easier... not sure how twould work if your father was to lease some land to you and still keep some so two herd numbers in the same yard... not sure how the dept would be with that...

    Thanks john yea I do think there is bother with him leasing me some land for the reasons u says urself there... I'll have a talk wi a solicitor see Wat he wreckons... or just talk real nice till the old fella and get it all signed over haha
