Guy's, Anything in particular to look out for on these (1.4 hatch) from 02/05 corolla's that they are known to give hassle with?

Have to pick up a little starter for someone and they have their heart set on one of these, prices seem a bit saucy on them on Donedeal even for high miler's which a lot seem to be, but none the less any info appreciated.

Gearbox bearings can go in them so if it's notchy changing gear there is a good chance the bearing is on it's way out. Corollas especially the hatchbacks always have strong resale values as they are in demand. Try and buy the best one you can afford.

Try and stretch to the facelifted hatchback model from late 2004 with the teardrop front headlights. They offered more choice in trim levels with the facelift model other than the default Terra paddy spec. There are also a good few UK spec ones about which would be T2, T3 or Colour special edition. Most of these would have air conditioning which was a rare option on most Irish versions.

Id get the face lifted model if possible. They get standard side airbags. Some uk models get curtain airbags too which was always an option on the Irish one right up to 07.

U.K. ones are nearly all we'll specced as bazz says.

The earliest models can be prone to oil burning, I'd be checking the NCT results carefully. Apart from that and the gearbox bearings as previously noted, they're a good solid reliable car, a vast improvement on the older Corolla, and better than the Corolla that came after it as well come to think of it.

I'd be trying to find a 2006 Luna hatchback, or else a UK import, the Irish spec cars are dreadful for equipment, only two airbags and not even remote central locking as standard until the car got facelifted in 2004 for example.

As cars from the 90's go the e10 and e11 corolla's are legends of reliability. Good drivers too.

Thanks for the info guys, are there any tell tales signs of a UK one

    Eg - https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/toyota-corolla-1-4-vvt-i-t3-5-door/13648949

    Or

    https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/toyota-corolla-petrol/13622670

Incedently any thoughts on the price for either one, is it on the ball for what they generally make?

They are both UK cars, the red one being higher spec than the black one.

As I said in my earlier post UK trim levels are T2, T3, Colour Collection, etc. Irish trim levels are Terra, Strata and Luna.
