    Have a renovated 3-bed Victorian including wiring for alarm and now thinking I should actually figure out what I want and what the best options are. Can anyone point me to any reading/basics/FAQs I should familiarise myself with?

    For a wired property I would recommend Siemens Vanderbilt or GSD.
    Both these systems will give you the option of free apps & free self monitoring via IP without any charges or subscriptions.
    Here are some data sheets on those system.
