Actor Peter Vaughan has died at the age of 93. Known to us old folks as Grouty from Porridge but more recently as Maester Aemon from Game of Thrones.

    RIP.

Grouty only appeared in three episodes, apparently. Shows what a good actor and character he was that he stuck in our minds so much. RIP.

I remember him doing an excellent performance in 'Our Friends in The North' years ago.

A fine body of work, consistently delivering the goods over a long career.

Great advert,Harry Fowler in there as well! He was a well known actor as a child in Ealings Hue and Cry and later in sitcoms!

He also starred as the 'strictly by the book' Quartermaster Sergeant in the 1979 film "Zulu Dawn". There's an unforgettable scene near the end of the movie where the Zulus are overrunning the British column, but he still insists that the ammunition boxes are carefully unscrewed rather than broken open as the brass screws have to be accounted for back in England.
