Sorry for the road rage

I was driving with my wife down from O'Connell Bridge to D'Olier Street. And there was a car (gold Toyota Avensis '16, I think) that beeped at me angrily. I beeped back at the guy, let him in, and well, showed him the middle finger. The guy opened his window showing me some gestures that there was 4 lanes and stuff, I suppose. Then I showed him the middle finger again and he got out of the car and came across mine shouting that there was "4 f***g lanes" and wanted to say something more probably, but I shouted back at him and told him to "F*** off". I totally felt like punching him in the face. I'm pretty sure I was on the second lane and I went to the second lane after the crossroads with the Quays. But there was too little time to explain who was on the right lane and honestly it didn't matter at that point anymore.

Anyway, the point is, that no matter who was right, your man looked like a nice guy, that just got pissed off with something else, really, and our childish behaviour just triggered his anger.
I'm pretty sure that in different circumstances we could even have a good pint.
And I just wanted to say sorry and I wanted to wish you a good day!

You're probably not going to see this message, but that's the only way I can think of to get to you.
Have a good day, man, and take it easy! I've had a bad morning and generally a stressful time recently too. Take care!

Piotr (a guy from the navy-blue Toyota Avensis)

I used to get worked up into a hopping rage when people wouldn't indicate. They didn't know i was raging as they were well on their way to their destination at that stage. I think you have to be philosophical about a'holes on the road and not get worked up. There are so many of them on the roads you will never win.

Hostile attribution bias, possibly due to systemic inflammation, maybe take an aspirin ...

Now op you have a mission.

Contact Dublin council and ask can all lane markings be extended as this is daily on this section.

Lane 4 vehicle comes across bridge then takes lane 3 then same with vehicle lane 3 takes lane 2/and so on.

I've taken 3 vehicles out on that section.

The 4th lane coming over the bridge is actually the fast lane, and should really only be used for overtaking before you get to the other side. If people observed this there wouldn't always be the 4 into 3 problem when they come off the bridge.

This is why I never angrily blast the horn at anyone. If someone gets momentarily distracted and makes a mistake or misjudges something, I don't see any point in making them feel bad about it. I'm just as capable of making the odd mistake as they are.

Clearly an ad must be taken out in a national newspaper to apologise... complete with a photo of the OP with a sad face...

I did look at it. But what I'm supposed to say? Answer the "aww" banter?
I didn't expect much and I did create an account just to say this, literally.

Although I admit some posts are funny. The aww ones too indeed, and true, the post was cheesy alright.

I could also talk about possible scenarios, like after taking the aspirin to heal my hostile attribution bias it didn't worked out, I got out of the car and chased the lad with my polar bear coz, you wouldn't believe, I'm a pretty big Polish fellow and we all have polar bears nearby, just in case. We've many of them back home. Of course I'd hold a big club to support my case.

    Is it better now? :)

    Motorcyclist gets revenge...

I was a kid in my dad's car and as we allowed a car to pull out in front of us on a busy road I noticed that there was a handbag standing on the rear bumper (in the days when they had those kind of bumpers). So my dad chased the car, with some difficulty, it was in a built up area. We waved and hooted the horn at them but they kept going.

Eventually they stopped and the driver came storming back to ask what the hell we thought we were doing. So we pointed out the handbag and he totally deflated. They were heading off on holiday and the bag had all the holiday money in it. Apologising and thanking, he got back into the car, presumably to give out stink to his wife :D

good on ye for apologising :)

i often think theres cowardice behind this road rage. ''oh you're not moving fast enough and im frustrated with you, let me scream at you from the safety of my steering wheel and zip off before i face the consequences''.

I love the original post and I can totally relate. I've done stuff like that before that I almost immediately regretted and felt was really unbecoming and undignified.

A very human post, OP! :)

Yes, my father was dead set against using the car horn unless in very exceptional circumstances, for this reason. If we beeped the horn, messing, he would go daft at us as he didn't want another motorist to think he was beeping at them. It's just really rude and unnecessary and everyone is prone to fúck ups. But what I have learned down the years is that so many people think that they are faultless drivers. You see that on boards.ie all the time. They're deluded, of course, but that doesn't stop them.
