So as the title of the thread says....civil defence in Galway are preparing for nuclear war.

Well I hope the bunker is not something for the well to do people but instead for the genetically advantageous people, given it is DNA that is needed for breeding after the nuclear war...

600 of them give their hours of leisure to thoughts and plans for the day of disaster. The day the world goes mad and fear becomes terrifying fact

Sounds like after hours on a normal day.

Such a simpler time back then. Overall the belief or hope is that a religious being will save the day.

    5 guys and 50 women.
Of course to ensure a breeding population, the women would need to be chosen based on their sexual characteristics.

They should be chosen based on fertility tests. And so should the men.

Looking pretty does not mean the're a better choice than a woman you think is ugly.

'Who do you think should go into the shelter?'
'I think nuns, priests, women and children should be catered for in a much more comprehensive way'

    :D:D

Okey dokey, we'll leave it there so, says Bill.

So we're not going to bother with procreation of the human race then?

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Apparently there was a rule that said anyone who owned a left handed store wasn't allowed to stay in the bunker.

Yeah cus sexual attraction has nothing to do with suitability for reproduction. It's all that 'beach body ready' adverts fault.

It has less to do with it than you think. Anyway reproduction is the goal not finding 10 women he fancies.

You wouldn't be saying that if you were one of the 5 blokes.

Bad enough the word has gone tits up in a blast of thermo nuclear fury - but now you have to ride 50 ugly women to boot. Jaysus that karma is a bitch:mad:

If it was for the very wealthy, you wouldn't know about it in the first place.

Looking around at all of the er homely looking women with numerous children, it does not look like looks were an indicator of fertility in their case.

It's a disgrace, Bill, a Nuclear bunker in Galway that can only fit 55 people. Found out. A nothing bunker.

I'm not a man tho so I'm ok. I'd have my own bunker anyway.

The end goal is repopulation. Not sexual satisfaction. This should be made clear to whoever is chosen. However bad that sounds, they are better off than the ones left outside.

I've seen the civil defence booklets from back then. After a nuclear attack you were supposed to go outside and sweep the fallout away from your driveway every morning.

Why does that not surprise me?

True - but if it was 50 Taylor Swifts you'd be more inclined to put the hours in repopulating, than if it was 50 Subo's - just saying;)

I think I'll take my chances with the irradiated wasteland rather than go down into one of those shady vaults, thanks very much. Not even if you guaranteed me position of 'overseer' would I go in, no siree.

I think being one of only 55 people left in the world would be worse than the few seconds of suffering you'd have to endure outside the bunker.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,455 ✭✭✭maudgonner

They did build it in the end. It's the school in Moneenageisha. So in the event of a H-bomb nobody will be able to make it to the bunker anyway because of traffic. :(

55 people left in the country.

No bomb would incinerate the entire world population people would be left to die slowly from radiation poisoning and disease

No, but the collapse of the global economy would mean you'll be living on whatevers around you. It would be chaos for those left over and possibly a futile attempt.

Limerick had one under the Customs House, or as the youngsters like to call it - the Hunt museum.

I presume there were bunkers in Dublin and Cork too?
