    Hi all,

I need to get new tyres asap but want to upgrade to alloys.

I need to make the order tonight.

    This is my current setup - 15x6.5j - 195/65/15 - ET43mm

    This is what I want - 17x7j - 225/45/17 - ET40or ET48????

If my wheel width is going from 6.5j to 7.0j, should I go for the higher or lower offset????

I'd say 5mm won't make any difference with the offset.

    Hi Hal,

    Thanks for the reply.

So you say I should go for the 48mm??

I went from a 15" 4×108 et35 (205/55/15) to 17" 4x108 et49 (215/45/17). That pushed out my wheels 9mm to the arch nice and flush. That's only a 5mm difference with the wheels you've choosen. What car is it for if you don't mind me asking?

Does the wheel not go closer to the strut??

    It's a megane 3

Oh your going from 195 to 255 a difference in 30mm. I would measure the distance with your current wheel and see how much room you have. It could rub the wheel arch on full lock. So a wheel spacer might be needed. If you check renault owners club fourms you can see what sizes worked for other members.

    Check here: http://www.renaultforums.co.uk/16-wheels-tyres/508578-megane-3-alloy-wheels.html

Or throw your existing wheel size and proposed new wheel sizes in here: http://www.willtheyfit.com/#isPage=1

Your going up 1/2" width which is 12.5mm. If you go for et40 your wheels will sit 15mm further out. If you go for et48 they'll sit 9.5mm further out. I'd go for the et48 as you don't want to mess with the original geometry too much.

So I'll go for ET43 then guys.

What tyre size would you recommend??

    Nope, From a 6.5J ET43 to a 7J ET40 will be 9mm poke, 6.5 ET43 to 7J ET48 will be 1mm.

Basically a 7J is 12.5mm wider... So if you have a 6.5J ET40 and 7J ET40 the 7J is going to be 1/4" closer to strut and 1/4" closer to arch.

    So will I go for 17x7J ET48 with 225/45 or 215/45?

Standard 17 inch Megane wheels are 49 offset so if it's a choice between 43 and 48 then go 48

225/45 is the correct size for your car. Plus it's a more common size so cheaper.
