Good day, a quick question regarding taxing a van for farm use. I bought a 06 transit connect a few months ago, it came taxed and tested, I swapped over my private car insurance. Now the tax has run out and wondering can I tax it for goods use or must I tax it as private and what's the procedure, I was told you have to go to the guards to get a form stamped.
    Thanks in advance

Yes go to the guards and get a declaration signed to say it's for goods use. You will also need the insurance cert to say it's insured for goods use and the log book

Edit: Also need a valid nct

Thanks a million, so is it possible to get it taxed at the commercial rate if the van is insured for private use

It's what I was thinking myself, so I'll be working off the old tax bands for engine size to figure out the cost?
    Thanks a million Suresanders

you also need a letter from revenue stating you are self-employed... Strict on that now,but it may eventually help to keep some of the thieves- that travel around as by-the-way tradesmen -off the road,
