    hi folks,

we have 2 fakro roof windows and there is a noticeable coolness in the air beneath them.

they are 1m2 and built on proper upstands into a flat roof.
Is it normal for these to perform so poorly ?

is there anything we could do ?

    thanks

    Relatively normal.
    When were they installed?

When were they installed? What is the U-Value? Double or triple glazed?

Can you Post the architects detail for ceiling insulation/air-tightness overlap with roof-light. The rooflight u-value should in your builders handover pack?

In reality - Its a couple of sheets of glass. Of course there's a noticeable difference when compared to the insulated, plastered, weathered, thick flat roof beside it.

Hi Rob. I had a double glazed Fakro window in my old kitchen and it performed very well. I remember the frost would still be on the outer pane when breakfast was over.
Last year we did a big job. We demolished the kitchen and back room and built a new open plan room. North facing. It has a flat roof. We put in 2 Fakro windows on roof kerbs. We went with triple glazed 114 X 140 ones. The insulated roof kerbs had to be ordered from Poland. I wasn't happy with the amount of insulation on the kerbs so I got the roofer to insulate them fully on the outside with 100 mm of Xtratherm insulation.
It all worked out great. And the frost sits on the glass for hours every morning.
    Fakro make great windows.
If you had gone for another brand, even the market leader, you would probably have ended up the same. Their argon filled glazing have good U values. The double glazing in Fakro windows is as good as any other but I reckon you're probably losing heat through the roof kerbs.
