Just ringing around today for estimations on fitting a bearing on my Astra. 140 being the cheapest and 280 being the steepest, they said the cheapest bearing for it is 180 which sounds like pure lies, then 100 minimum for labour. Is 140 around the correct ball park? He said on the phone it would only take an hour.

Check on Micks garage for a price for your model.

Some have the hub built in and are dearer than normal wheel bearings.

When you say 'bearing', do you mean a 'wheel bearing'?

I would suggest you try GSF car parts. They sell original spec parts at discount prices. You could always buy the part yourself and get a mechanic to fit it.
    Also check prices on ebay.

Off the top of me head these bearing had the wheel speed sensor, for he ABs built in, hence the price. It is not a simple push in bearing for the Astra.

Update on this. Went to a mechanic and he drove the car and said the bearing is knackered. Replaced bearing and on the drive home the noise was still there loud as ever. Took off the tyre had a look and the tyre is badly worn on the inside. Im assuming it's bad alignment and the noise is the tyre wearing away? Not much a car person. Searches online suggest this might be the case.
