do you have to tell the social if you are going away for one night

    i was told today in the social welfare office if i wanted to go visit family in a different county i have to let them know even tho i only visited for one night i should have let them know i was going, i have being working and my contract ended last month so if i want to go for one night away i have to let the social welfare know??

    Normally, it wouldn't be usual to have to tell the Dept of Social Protection that you were going to another county in Ireland for one night. However, there could be circumstances whereby it would ring their alarm bells e.g., the inspector called to your home first thing in the morning to go over your application with you and found that you were staying elsewhere, or that you missed a sign-on date/time or the like.

    If you are down for a meeting with the social then yes. If not, they won't know.
