Credit Card Company Wants Personal Info?

My mum got a letter in with her latest credit card bill saying under some law, criminal justice, anti terrorism etc. that they needed her to send them back a copy of a photo ID and proof of address.

It's AvantCard. As I said, the letter was in with the credit card bill so I assume it's legit but she's never been asked for it before, nor have I or anyone else we've asked.

Any advice?

I volunteer with my local credit union, and we send out lots of these requests, in order to keep the information up-to-date - it's a regulatory requirement.

If your mum would like some peace of mind or reassurance, call Avant Card first, and ask them to confirm the request

Via the number on your card itself, not the number on the letter.

Thanks for that. As I said we assumed it was legit given it came in the same envelope as the bill but we'd never heard of it before so I just wanted to be doubly sure.

I got the same request in the post today after having my card for 20 years of more. Seems a bit stupid after all this time.

regulations changed in 2013 regarding money laundering. regulators gave financial institutions 3 or 4 years to get all their old clients records updated.
