Hot-press cylinder venting into attic tank

Hi, I was wondering if someone could help me...Hot water in the hot-press cylinder is venting into the attic tank and going out at the soffit overflow. We do not use the electric immersion heater, so could this be a thermostat problem in the boiler itself? If it is, where is the thermostat located in the boiler and is it adjustable?..The boiler is an indoor Super Q 50/90 Firebird. Thanks.

Have you been up in the attic to see exactly whats happening?
How many tanks in the attic?
Is it venting out the walking stick type pipe that bends over one of the tanks?
Or is the larger tank just filling up to above the overflow?
Is ballcock leaking when it should be stopped?

Hi, there is one large and one small tank. Yes its venting out the bent "walking stick" pipe into the large tank.. Ballcock is not faulty and is shutting of ok

My guess is the coil in the cylinder, but that would usually come back up the cold water feed to from attic tank to bottom of cylinder.
Is it boiling water being vented?
Is the water in the large tank warm/hot?
Are you certain that immersion isn't on?

You could try tying up ball cock in small tank to see if you are loosing water there. Be careful doing this if the heating is on. Don't let it run empty.
Is it venting all the time or under certain conditions?

Have you changed to a zoned system? What can happen is when a zone reaches temperature and is shut off the other radiators and cylinder coil can't take the extra water and it gets expelled out the overflow. You could try turning down the circulation pump speed and see does that help.

Where is the extra water coming from?

Hi...thank you all for responding..we have it sorted. My daughters were indeed using the immersion heater...the red light on the switch is not working so we didn't notice it was on. My neighbor changed the stuck thermostart on the tank and that fixed it....thanks again to all.

The thermostat in the immersion needs to be checked. It shouldn't allow the water to boil like that.
