Taking a job while still on maternity leave

    Hi,
    Would appreciate some solid advice??...
I'm invited for interview for a new job next week. I am on maternity leave from my current job but it isn't paying me enough to go back. The job I'm being interviewed for is to begin in January and I am on state maternity leave until the end of February. If i got the job, (being presumptious) am I entitled to finish my 26 weeks maternity leave? Or are the employers fully entitled to take on someone who can start straight away, which I'd say they most likely will do. I'm sure the question will come up "When can you start?" And I'll have to be honest. I'd say that will lose me the job straight away. There are other ones I've applied for and they are to begin early January too. Seeing as I'm not due back until the end of February I am not prepared to leave my baby that much earlier.

If you're not ready to start when they want you to start, I'm pretty sure they can pick someone else on that basis.

Just tell them the truth, see what they say, can't hurt really.
Would you even try to start at the start of February (if you get the job?) sure whats 1 month?

I really don't want to cut short my maternity leave but if I get the job I'll have to consider it. Will be very sad to do so though.

Even though the job interview is next week, there might be a second round or they could easily take a week or more before coming back to you. A month from then may take you up to mid Jan and not too great a reduction.

Go for it anyway, and if you like what they are saying say you'd have to give a month's notice.
