Just when you thought life couldn't get any ****tier. Had carpets cleaned cos the house smells of pee. Post cleaning it still does - so much for cat pee theories. Put bleach down the toilet today most unusually & came in to big bleached circular whitering on living room ceiling this evening. Suspect now the toilet has a leak & this is the reason for the ongoing smell of pee in the house. Help :(

You have at least traced it to the output of the toilet and can eliminate anything else. It's a start.

There is only really one place it could be, the soil pipe. (Back of the toilet) Feel around the joins for any wetness.

Did the wetness on the ceiling appear directly below the toilet? If not, you are going to have to follow the soil pipe looking for the leak. This may involve breaking open any parts that are boxed in. Perhaps lifting floorboards.

Eliminate the connection at the back of the bowl first. It's the most likely. Any chance you can put up a few pictures?

    you crack me up 47
sh1t flowing through the ceiling. you look at the silver lining.

check the multi wick (fitting that is conected to bowl) for leaks . the rubber inside is brobaly broken or not seated correctly.
does the pipe go down into the floor or straight through the wall and run down the wall.
if its straight out then pull the toilet nad bowl . get new multi wick and refit everything
if it goes through the floor take down the ceiling. its distroyed anyway. it will give better access and not distroy the bathroom if its tiled etc.

Thanks all - y - round vile ring spreading in circle from toilet bowl ( not android can't do pictures) & ceIling downstairs ruined. Looks like the multi-wick seal has cracked & come apart - at least the floor isn't tiled. Is it normal to go through the ceiling to fix? Only had he whole downstairs replastered 3 years ago - livid. Thanks for the help. Think its beyone my skills & emotional strength. Raging. Its absolutely filthy.

does the multi wick go into the floor.

you dont have to go through the ceiling but you may as well. the slab is ruined anyway

Y - Awful - I can't believe my bad luck - I only had all the downstairs ceilings replastered a few years back - I'm livid. Multiwick seems to go into a wooden box that feeds into other wooden box that hides pipes - will have to get crowbar to force the lot open & see where the leak is developing :( and how bad the mess is. Is it normal to then also cut out & replace the wooden floors (under the lino?) I can't see how thst can be done without damaging the infrastructure of the house - plaster is messy but only cosmetic - I can't leave pee soaked floorboards soaking smell into the house - what do people typically do with the actual floors?
Thanks for your replies - help much appreciated.
