4K Suggestions?

I'm thinking of upgrading to a 4k somewhere between 50-65" but I'm a bit lost on where to start so if you've got any suggestions it'd be great. I'm seeing a lot of talk about Samsungs with quantum dot around the place which sounds promising but I don't know if they'd be the best fit or just that their marketing departing is pulling out all the stops lately.

Placement wise, it'd be going into a very bright room and surrounded by large windows (2 windows, each 20feet by ~8feet, so a lot of ambient light) as such a good bright screen would be essential.

Good sound out of the TV itself would be great as I've no sound system other than what comes built in unless I go down the route of a sound bar but that's going to reduce what I could spend on the tv. I dont really have the layout for a proper sound system either so a soundbar is about the best I could put in.

Smart features, while nice, really aren't that important to me - 99% of everything I watch is from Netflix or Plex via Chromecast Ultra which supports 4k so even if all sort of native apps are available I probably wouldn't get much use out of them.

A nice to have would include 3D, but honestly, that's more of a box ticking exercise - I don't imagine I'd use it much, if at all, however I have read that 3D on a 4k fixes a lot of the resolution issues so having the ability to watch something in 3D would be nice but not essential.

Budget wise, I'd like to come in under the €1,000 mark (delivered to Cork) but if its something worth while I could probably stretch a little bit more.

Any thoughts? And assuming I was ready to pull the trigger before Christmas, what's the order deadline for delivery?

One final thing - what's the policy with dead/hot pixels these days? In terms of it being enough to replace etc. I have a terrible habit of finding them and once seen can never unsee them which drives me nuts as its all I can focus on. I was hoping they'd almost be a thing of the past but out of 3 monitors bought in the last 18 months 2 have a single bright red pixel that may as well have flashing neon signs pointing at them.

Thanks for the post - quite a lot to take in!The Samsung QD TV's are excellent but if you are looking at 55-65" ideally you will severely bust your budget and to be honest I don't think that that's necessary to get a really good large screen TV withe A1 PQ anymore..

If you wanted to stick to budget the 1st place I'd head is the Panasonic TX58DX700, beautiful build quality and for the money great picture quality - it just crawls in under the budget at £839 / €999:
http://www.richersounds.ie/p-201923-viera-tx58dx700b.aspx

If you could bust the budget I'd look at the Panasonic 802 series - you have a fairly large room and the audio quality is critical in a 20ft room - the 802 includes a decent soundbar and its really a design led TV which looks fantastic and I think that the PQ is significantly under rated on this model - side to side I think it give the 902 series a run for its money ( and I love the 802 design!!)).

This one will bust the budget in 58" at £1189 / €1249 ( Its great value in YoYo at the moment..)
http://www.richersounds.ie/p-202064-viera-tx58dx802b.aspx

Moving away from Pana - have a look at Hisense - they produce some awesome screens for crazy money - the 65M5500 is great value and just about in your budget at €1049:
http://www.richersounds.ie/p-202183-65m5500.aspx

With the exception of the Panasonic TX58DX802 - honestly you should look at a soundbar as even some of the best screen have dubious audio quality especially in a decent sized room - the Q Acoustics M4 is a great partner without breaking the bank and its one of the few that really doesn't need a separate sub - really the M4 completes the AV experience and I regard it as just about essential:

http://www.richersounds.ie/p-200641-m-4.aspx

Happy to do a Boardie deal on any screen with an Q Acoustics M4 bundle,

In terms of dead pixels - each manufacturer differs but generally a single dead pixel i=does not mean replacement - of course if its within a few week of purchase we would look at it but generally manufacturers do look at a cluster or line of dead pixels before they will replace - luckily in decent quality TV ( maybe not budget monitors TBH)  dead pixels are getting far more rare!

Thanks again and keep me posted if we can assist,

ATVB,

Hi John, thanks for those - I've had a look and even though it's over the budget the 802 is really catching my eye. I'm just wondering about the logistics of getting it delivered; I'm in a 3rd floor apartment and I'm not convinced that'll fit in the lift, unless maybe turned on its side. Is that going to cause issues? Also is there any possibility of evening delivery?

Thanks.

Hi JohnX.

Apologies for the delay on getting back to you.

You could put it on its side while going up in the lift and there should be no issue.

The 802 really is a fantastic screen and look excellent.

As we use a 3rd party courier (Aramex or DPD) for most deliveries I don't think and evening delivery is possible.
I think there hours are 9am - 6pm but we can try for as late as possible if we can.

Hi sorry for interuption of the post. Can you give me an idea how good the 58panny refered to above is compaired to the 65hisense.
Im pretty lost in all the jargon, I dont need a tv to play games on just watch tv. Might get sky instaled as my internet is rubbish and tv reception is bad. The room is approx 15ft wide sofa one wall tv the other (30long).

I just received my 58 Panny and have to say it is outstanding, the soundbar is also great, it also has twin sat tuners.

Hi gerfmurphy,

The 58" Panasonic is really hard to beat. If you're looking for a larger screen size the Hisense is a good TV but if you can sacrifice a few inches the Panasonic has better motion processing, better colour and better smart features.

Hi again
Regarding the 58inch
Do you think the price will drop in jan?
How easy/hard is it to fix this to the wall( its cavity block exterior wall)
Is the sound bar attached to the tv or does it need a seperate bracket?

Hi Germurphy.

Apologies for the delay in getting back to you.

The 58DX700 has dropped a little in our boxing day sale to £799.00
http://www.richersounds.ie/p-201923-viera-tx58dx700b.aspx

58DX802 is now at £1099.00 but can not be shipped and is an in store only collection.
http://www.richersounds.ie/p-202064-viera-tx58dx802b.aspx

For mounting to a wall it is not too difficult but just make sure there are plenty of screws in the bracket going into the wall.

The soundbar on the 802 is attached to the DX802 stand but if wall mounting you would require an addon so the soundbar can be mounted onto the wall bracket.
We sell this little kit for our Sanus range of brackets which hold a soundbar:
http://www.richersounds.ie/p-200135-fpa405-b2.aspx

I hope this is of help.

Any questions drop me a post or a PM.

I would be interested in a 50" 700, 750 or 802 Panasonic. Was initially set on a 700 but have been reading up on other 2 and the added features are tempting. This tv is not fir main room so wondering if worth paying extra for 750 or 802? The room is not very big so think a soundbar is a necessity. In any case the room is wired for surround sound if I ever want to install a system in the future.

Interested in your views re comparability of these 3 Tvs and your current price for each. Thanks.

HI Creedp.

Apologies for the delay.

There are several differences when you go up it the ranges first is the refresh rate.
50DX700 - 1400HZ BMR IFC
50DX750 - 1800HZ BMR IFC
50DX802 - 2000HZ BMR IFC

The stands also differ on each. The 700 has feet and either end of the panel on the bottom, the 750 has the standard middle mounted stand and the 802 goes all out with its fancy design and comes with a soundbar incorporated into the stand.

Both the 750 and 802 are 3D panels.

The 802 also comes with a built in FreeSat tuner and the panel is also THX certified.

Also the 750 and 802 are the first in the Panasonic range to use the new 4K chipsets:
4K Studio Master Processor
Panasonic's 4K Studio Master Processor contains unrivalled processing ability from the past masters of reference-quality plasma and professional monitors. Together with Wide Colour Phosphor technology, it ensures accurate colour, deep blacks and brilliant brightness for a true-to life picture.

I've seen all three of these running at one time or another in our store and while the 700 series are good the 750 and 802 are most definitely better producing better images and the sound from the 802 is fantastic.

Price wise.
50DX700 - £599 (Inc 6 year Guarantee)
https://www.richersounds.ie/p-201898-viera-tx50dx700b.aspx

50DX750 - £849 (Inc 6 year Guarantee)
https://www.richersounds.ie/p-201899-viera-tx50dx750b.aspx

50DX802 - £999 (Inc 6 year Guarantee)
https://www.richersounds.ie/p-202051-panasonic-tx50dx802b.aspx

Delivery on any of these would be £6.99 and all are currently in stock.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks Kenny. While I would like the 802 it doesn't suit where I will be putting it - it has to fit into a wall recess and there is no space for the soundbar. Will consider the 750 v the 700 further. As its not the main TV I'm leaning towards the 700 at present. Will seriously consider the 802 when main TV is being replaced. Ill drop in one of the days to see the TVs in the flesh. Thanks again.
