Bought himalayan salt recently for my sheep they don't seem to like it i worried now they won't get enough minerals but the mineral licks were costing 2 much at the rate they were going through them anyone with the same problem

Salt is one of the few minerals that if animals don't need it they won't eat it.

Now the rest of the minerals, if you're lacking in something I wouldn't be relying on rock salt to supply it

    +1
The important minerals for sheep aren't in it

I have look up as much information as I could get on himalayan salt and it says it has all the trace elements an animal need it goes as fast as to to say it's more pure than any Minera block you can buy and less wasteful so it's not saying it's only a salt

There appears to be no list of contents anywhere, if a sheep needs a mg/day of cobalt, how do you know whether it supplies a mg or .1mg or .01mg day.....about all you can depend on it for is salt.
If your farm is deficient, you have to be sure of the quantities available in what you buy

So do you think it's not sufficient then, I change from mineral block because theirs no lasting in them sheep scoop them away and the weather affects them 2 I'm about 5 weeks gone off them so I'm worried now it will affect my lambs

    http://www.uniblock.ie/pdf/SheepMineral.pdf.

There's the spec from uniblock buckets, If it's a 20kg bucket there's enough minerals in it for 100 sheep for a 10days, if they eat it in a week I'd be in no hurry to give them the next bucket.....Uniblock claims it only costs 2c/ewe/day.
It's important to know the levels of minerals, Iodine, selenium, vit e and cobalt are vital for in lamb ewes.
The problem with any of the licks is that some ewes take too much and others maybe none at all.
The only buckets I use are Hi mag in the spring for tetany and 6 or 7 ewes die from tetany, because they probably don't take the buckets

My buckets just end up full of water. I wonder do they drink from it and get minerals that way or is a wet bucket useless?
