The Christmas Bonus is also paid to people gettting Blind Welfare Allowance, Mobility Allowance, and rehabilitative training allowances from the HSE. And do you know if you have to be on it for a certain period and if you need to be above a certain age?

You can check in this link what minimum applies to your particular payment
    http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/social_welfare/irish_social_welfare_system/christmas_bonus.html

You do not have to be above a certain age i.e., if you are on an age restricted payment and are on it for the required minimum period you will receive the bonus of 85% of your payment (not including the fuel allowance).

I have question as well I have been on Jsa since October 2013 and on September 2014 went to BTEA and went back to Jsa on November/December of the same year and got called to do Tus on October 2015 and finished on Feb 2016 do u still get the bonus ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,168 ✭✭✭Balagan

You should get it as BTEA and Tús are qualifying payments and time spent on each will be counted.

I don't think they qualify as not been getting payment long enough, but I am open to correction on this.

Those receiving One Parent Family payments (and Jobseekers Transitional Payments) will be in receipt of the Christmas Bonus - there is no minimum payment time requirement. In the list posted in earlier posts here, it specifies the payments which carry the minimum time requirement - the rest are without those time restrictions.

collected today and xmas bonus was added im on JSA,thought it was supposed to be dec.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4 Doris81

Dec is only a couple of days away, hard to believe! So the bonus is being paid with this weeks payment.
Got through to the social welfare office who told me that my bonus will be in the bank with next weeks payments so looks like you're right house45

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,104 ✭✭✭jenn1984

That's comforting folks! I'm in the same situation working part time and getting jobseekers allowance for the days I don't work. Was hoping to get the bonus this morning but will still be happy to get it next week!

Hi Folks - I've been on JSA for casual workers for over four years (working 3 days a week) with a 2 month gap in the middle when I had a work injury and was switched to Injury Benefit. Not entirely sure if this qualifies me for the Christmas bonus. Any thoughts?

    Thanks

If you ring your local office with your pps number they will tell you if you're getting it or not, I had to ring them this morning and they could see that's it's there with my next payment

Here's the criteria to receive it .

In December 2016, the Christmas Bonus will be paid to people getting the following payments:

Back to Education Allowance (people coming from jobseeker's payments must have been on their payment and/or BTEA for 15 months)
    Back to Work Allowance
    Back to Work Enterprise Allowance
    Back to Work Family Dividend
Basic Supplementary Welfare Allowance (long-term only - 15 months)
    Blind Pension
Carer's Allowance and Benefit (including half-rate Carer's Allowance)
    Community Employment
    Deserted Wife's Allowance and Benefit
    Disability Allowance
Disablement Pension and Widow's, Widower's or Surviving Civil Partner's Pension under the Occupational Injuries Scheme
    Domiciliary Care Allowance
    Farm Assist
    Gateway
    Guardian's Payment (Contributory) and (Non-Contributory)
    Invalidity Pension
    Job Initiative
JobBridge (people coming from jobseeker's payments must have been on their payment and/or JobBridge for 15 months)
    Jobseeker's Allowance (long-term only - 15 months (over 390 days of unemployment))
    Jobseeker's Transitional payment
    Magdalen Laundry Payments
    One-Parent Family Payment
    Partial Capacity Benefit
    Pre-Retirement Allowance
    Rural Social Scheme
    State Pension (Contributory) and (Non-Contributory)
    Tús
VTOS (people coming from jobseeker's payments must have been on their payment and/or VTOS for 15 months)
Widow, Widower's or Surviving Civil Partner's Pension (Contributory) and (Non-Contributory)
For Jobseeker’s Allowance (JA) or Basic Supplementary Welfare Allowance (BSWA), you must be getting the payment for 15 months to get a Christmas Bonus. However, if you were getting another payment eligible for the Christmas Bonus immediately before claiming JA or BSWA, and your combined time on eligible payments is 15 months, you will get the Christmas Bonus.

No you didn't, That's what you get for working all those years and paying your stamps my boy.
Now if you had have spent your time sitting on your arse doing nothing you'd have got it no problem.

I'm on illness benefit as I have been ill since August 2015 and unable to work. I don't see illness benefit on the list of eligibility for a Christmas bonus? Disaster, I am relying on that.

It's not covered unfortunately. If you're stuck though check in with your local SVP they may give you a voucher for grocery shopping.

It won't help with the bonus for this year but if you have a chronic illness that stops you working maybe you should look into disability benefit instead? It's not easy to get and it would depend entirely on what your illness is and how treatable it is

They will do a lot to help you. But I completely understand I'm on disability and even with the bonus is barely covers it.

I have MS.I'm diagnosed 2.5 years ago. Been unlucky in that my MS has been very aggressive for the past 18 months and has been unresponsive to all medications so far. I had a severe disabling relapse which left me temporarily wheelchair bound. I had to learn how to walk again from scratch. Was in Beaumont hospital for ten weeks, got home in time for Christmas last year. In February I was admitted to the National Rehabilitation Hospital and was there for seven weeks. I'm walking now with no frame or stick. That in and of itself is a bit of a miracle as I was so bad before. Am ready to return to work but am being thwarted by occupational health. It's been a crap year and learning that I don't qualify for the Christmas bonus .... well, that's just the cherry on top.

Ok if you're ready to go back to work you wouldnt qualify for disability either.

Sorry to hear of your I'll health embee but if you are a single mother shouldn't you of gotten the Christmas bonus along with your lone parents claim?

They were only trying to help you with a suggestion! Nothing concrete comes to mind but there are Charities out there that provide toys for the Christmas but even if just a Shopping Voucher or some food that could be a help to you couldn't it.

Single parent doesn't necessarily equate to in receipt of a lone parent payment.
