    Hi,

I have looked around online but haven't found the answer to this.

I have a screech I think is coming from the alternator belt. Noise lasts aprx 1 second on cold start only.

Problem I have is that I don't see how to release tension in order to remove it. Any I have seen online clearly have a tensioner but there doesn't seem to be a separate tensioner component on mine - it loops around the alternator and goes directly to the drive pulley. Am I missing something?

It could be a stretch type belt that doesnt have a tensioner. To remove the old one, (if it is worn, ribs cracked etc) best to cut it off with a blade. The new one will need to be installed using a special tool. PM me as I have the tool.

Thanks for the considerate reply Waterson.

The belt looks in great nick - but it has done 160,000 kms! there is about 25mm "give" if I press down on it. Ribs look perfect etc.

I don't want to remove it just yet because I need to see if anything else needs replacing - need to keep this car on the road.

I've no great worry about going to mechanic, sometimes its better to be sure than sorry.
