I want to make the shelf below and am looking to get some iron pipes,

Where's the best place to get them, I tried a few DIY shops but I couldn't find them.

    Cheers

Try a plumbing suppliers such as Heatmerchants or Chadwicks - they are typically called 'gun barrell' or 'GB' pipes and fittings here.

How did you get on with this? I'm looking to do something similar. I was talking to Heat merchants and they have gun barrel but in 6m lengths. Just wondering how you'd go about getting it cut then threaded so it would take the fittings?

You could ask a local plumber / pipe fitter to cut and thread them for you if he has the right equipment. Otherwise you could buy a good quality hacksaw and hire the equipment from a hire shop. Just use plenty of cutting oil if you do it yourself, otherwise you will destroy the die.
