    Hi,

I am currently looking at buying a petrol octavia estate. I have driven the 1 litre petrol 115bhp and was pleasently suprised that a 1 litre engine could move the car.

However i read online that the new facelift octavia will / could have a 1.4 petrol that will give out 150bhp and this sounds like the perfect engine for me.

Does anyone know if this car does in fact exist & if so when these cars will be available in Ireland ?
I emailed skoda but have not heard anything back yet.

    Thanks for help

I know in the facelifted Golf from early next year the 1.4 TSi engine is being replaced with an all new 1.5 TSi engine. I think it's going to be available in 140bhp and 160bhp. I'd imagine the Octavia will get the same engine but I'd say it will be difficult to get one in this country where the 1.0 TSi will cover the majority of petrol Octavia sales.

The 1.4 TSi engine has been available in the Octavia in other countries for a number of years now but I don't think it was every offered here or at least not many people bought it.

They do exist - and they did since the Octavia 3 was released (in 140bhp incarnation). it's a perfect match for this car, nippy and very very efficient.

A different question is if Skoda Ireland brings them here. Don't think so, they are more focused on getting the crappy 1.6 diesels...

    Thanks for the replies guys.

They are my thoughts exactly regarding that engine :D it think it would be a perfect match.
I have currently got a 15 year old occy diesel and dont fancy another diesel for my next car. A nice small efficent petrol engine with a bit of poke sounds ideal.

Looks like i will have to get one from the uk:mad:

Ditto, have a 10 yr old S40 diesel and will get a new Polo GT new model 2018 with the new 1.5 litre 150 bhp engine

They were available but disappeared from the pricelists a few months ago. They might make a reappearance with the facelift. I'd imagine a factory order would soon mean it has to be the newer model.

I believe the forthcoming Golf will stick with the 1.4 TSI initially, I don't think VW is ready to launch the newer engine just yet (but it should start making its debut some time next year).

1.5 TSI is just a 1.4 TSI with different stroke length for improved efficency. Externally it looks the same...

I have the 1.4 150bhp engine in my Polo. Cracking bit of engineering. Thought it might be a bit peaky but actually pulls really well from under 2k revs.
For those who care about such things its pretty economical too. Very similar mpg to my Golf GTD.
Obviously in a heavier car it will feel different.

    Thanks for that
Will definitely be on my shopping list but will wait for the new model due in 2017.

Have you seen it? It looks like a E-Klasse wannabe...

Well i just had it confirmed that it wont be an option available to us in Ireland in 2017

It seems like the 1 litre option is what is available to us in the petrol range.

Real pity as i feel the 1.4 option ticks alot of the right boxes.

Typical, we always get the Paddy spec, the UK spec is always the spec I want here but cannot get. Take the VW Scirocco, cannot get a petrol 2 litre here not alone they don't fit the 1.4 ACT 150bhp to that car!

That is why I am after the Polo GT

Opel is skipping AstraK 1.6T. Skoda won't bring Octavia 1.4, there are hardly any Superb petrol options too...

What a miserable place on Earth... :(

Car distributors will only bring in what they think they can sell. Unfortunately they won't bring in what only a handful of people look for.

OP if you really want one then consider bringing in a 6 month example from the UK

You may also have the option of ordering from factory in the spec you want. Just because it's not on their price list doesn't mean it can't be ordered.
When I got the Polo GT I ordered a bunch of options that were not on the Ireland price list. I pulled what I wanted off the UK list and there wasn't an issue.

I did have to wait 4 months for delivery though.

I'd imagine most of the German manufacturers will sell whatever engines and options are available in the UK to an Irish motorist (even if they're not officially available in Ireland) - but only if they think you're serious about buying and know they won't be stuck with a car they won't easily be able to sell.

I hope you don't mind me raising the zombie thread, but when we were changing one of the family cars an Octavia 1.4 TSi came onto the radar, but there wasn't an Irish car to be found.

So I checked stats.beepbeep.ie to find there was only 1 1.4 150bhp registered in Ireland from 2016 to 2018. 2018 (or late 2017 with the facelift) was when the 1.5 I think came onto the market and even then there was only 22 country wide, and the single 1.4 version was registered in 2018.
    9 1.5 TSi's in 2019, and 2 in 2020.

We really had a fascination for diesel for this engine to be not bothered with by Skoda Ireland or consumers.

There was a cheaper 1.2 alternative.

The 1.4 didn’t seem to be offered in 2016. Here is an old price list

Cheers for that, couldn't find anything similar. About 40bhp in the difference between the 1.2 and 1.4. Not so much a big deal compared to getting a cheaper car and motor tax but with the same equipment I suppose.
