    Hi all!

I recently moved to Ireland and started working. My company is not paying for our health insurance and my health is such that I require often visits to various specialists. I'd appreciate any information on which private health insurer would be best for my needs, I am quite confused with all the information I find on the web. Thanks.

if you go to http://www.hia.ie/ you can compare all the options from the available insurers and tailor the plan you require.

If you need to see specialists without a hospital stay you need to ensure that the out patience coverage is included.

It's hard to say what policy is right for you because it depends on what hospitals you want covered, what room choices you want and how many out patient visits you require.

HIA is going to be the best starting point.

One thing that may be an issue for you is coverage for pre-existing conditions. Usually there are waiting periods for those which can be up to 2 years.

Up to five years, maybe even more if you're older.

OP you need to find out if there's any way you can transfer cover from where you used to live to here.

    Good advice above.

In general, private health insurance is good for covering expensive items like scans and hospital stays. It is not much good for covering consultant visits. You can get cover for this, certainly, but it isn't that great a deal. There is usually a very high yearly excess. So you need to put some cash aside to cover this, even with insurance.
