Just curious as to people’s preference here. Personally I’m from a Tramore which was a football town while I was growing up (soccer really, but lets not get into foreign sports). I played Gaelic football in primary school, but didn’t take up hurling until 25 while living in Dublin. I have been going to hurling games since hurling began in 1998 whereas I only go to the odd football game. So I grew up in a bit of a mixed environment where football was the more common code to play, but hurling was the more common to watch. What way did that turn out – I much rather playing and watching hurling now.

But what sort of make-up have we on boards of GAA people? Football is clearly the more dominant sport, but I don’t expect the poll to be as clear cut as that.

    Football to play and watch.

I'm from the football part of Offaly so I was brought up on it more.

Personally I think football when it is played well like the Dublin Kerry semi Final or AI final replay it's a perfect sport as it's got a bit of everything.

The average game of hurling is probably for the neutral more watchable than the average football match because there are a lot of scores and people can just enjoy the scores however I think it is too easy to score in hurling at times and this actually takes away from the game.A lot of hurling matches tend to be overrated in my opinion .Anytime there is a high score in a hurling watch it gets hyped up a lot but personally I prefer the type of games with a score like 2-17 to 2-15 where you know every score is hard fought and it's a proper battle, I'm not as big a fan of the games where you get teams pucking the ball over the bar close to 30 times those type of games aren't as thrilling to me because scores are too easily got and it's not the same thrill from them happening so often.

Definitely football for me. I enjoy hurling as well but could take it or leave it really.

It's funny because if you asked this question to most people they would say hurling is by far the better sport. However, higher participation and attendances in football would suggest that in actual fact people prefer football.
I find that the reason most people say that hurling is better is because we are constantly told by the media about how great the sport is while on the other hand the media very often have little if anything good to say about football.

Football in my opinion is the perfect mix between skill and athleticism. While hurling is without a doubt more skillful is it undoubtedly easier to score in comparison to football. The ease at which you can score and the speed at which you can move up the pitch often mean that tactics aren't as prevalent in hurling, whereas the tactical evolution of football is one of the very enjoyable aspects of the game.

Always preferred hurling both to watch and play, but favourite teams of all time are Dubs footballers of 70s and current team.

Unfortunately, our hurlers will never match that.
