A4 v Octavia

We are hoping to change car this coming year and looking at getting an A4 Avant 2.0 Tfsi or Octavia RS combi 2.0 Tsi, is there really much of a difference in the two to justify the price difference.
Really like the Audi but i'm sure some of that is because of good marketing on Audis behalf, and by the time you put some optional bells and whistles on the Audi it really adds up compared to the Octavia.

I'm even considering looking at the A4 3.0 Tdi

Currently driving a 03 Golf Tdi, that owes us nothing.
Hoping to head out and check out some dealerships this weekend.
    Opinions welcome.

Brand new? I'm a fan of the Octavia but if I was in the nice position to choose between those two cars I'd take the A4

I think this comparison has been made a few times on here and the general opinion is that the two you mention are really separate classes. The A4 being a step above the Octavia.

I've just gone from a 02 A4 to a 08 Mondeo and even between them I can see where the Audi was a more refined car all round even though it was older.

Both may have alot of the same features but they were just that slight bit better in the Audi. Even down to the stupid things like outside temp, in the Audi it was accurate no matter what, in the Mondeo it goes up and down depending on if you're in traffic or not.

With regard to comfort and road noise the 08 Mondeo would be streets ahead of the octavia. The estate version of the Octavia are very boomy especially in the back. The elegance with the larger wheels are very tiresome on a long journey. I think the A3 v Octavia would be a fairer comparison. The A4 has the passat type multi link suspension which, despite its bad name for knocking ball joints is super smooth to travel in.
