Stupid question about alloys wheels

Measured the diameter of my alloy across the wheel and it's 17"..

.. but the tyre is 16" that's on it.

I can only assume it's a 16" alloy but just curious how to determine specifically... other than tyre obviously.

You need to measure it properly:

Yeah, I've seen that diagram but they're alloys with a quite a defined inner and outer rim.

    These are what I have:

That measures 17" across, while measuring the opposite side of wheel is 15" so I'm none the wiser! :)

Yeah they're just 16 inch fiesta wheels. Off a steel model AFAIK.

There will be a stamp on the inside edge of the wheel that will tell you it's size, offset etc.
Yeah, I've recorded what I could off the inside and seems to indicate 16" by a quick Google:

    4S6J-1007-BA
    6.5J x16 ET52.5

Just wanted clarification on how to properly measure them.

You cannot access the part of the wheel you need to measure when the tyre is on.
    Simple as that.

Ah, didn't realise that. Makes more sense!

The first long number is the part number (i presume - not familiar with Ford part numbers)

The 6.5J is the width of the wheel.

ET is the offset how far the front face of the wheel sits out from the mounting face (the part that touches the hub) in english it basically means how far the wheel sits out in the wheel arch.
