Has anyone seen these before? Its an brilliant spectacle. I've only seen it twice once in a tiny courtyard of a hospital completely boxed in by 5 story buildings and again this evening in a similar surrounding in a hotel. Literally hundreds of wagtails appearing from nowhere to roost in 3 bushes!

The Plane trees on O'Connell Street in Dublin used to be a major roost for Wagtails.

There's one in my hometown and it really is spectacular to see tens and hundreds of wagtails moving into it as it gets dark. One of my favourite birds despite, and probably because of, how common they are!

Thanks for the replies I just wondered had anyone else seen this amazing spectacle. Its very bittersweet for me as the first time I saw it was the best day of my life and since then well things have changed.

I agree, fantastic sight. I've seen it happen in a tree on Westmoreland street and a tree near where the buses stop in Dublin airport. Dozens of them each time. One of my favourite birds for sure.

I noticed one in a tree outside a church in Westport town at the weekend. Not sure how many birds, as I didn't have time to linger, and they seemed to be just settling in for the night

I watched wagtails flying into roost in plane trees outside Dr. Quirkey's Emporium on Dublin's O'Connell Street at 4.30 pm this evening. It was lovely to see and hear them again. But be careful - I could hear drug dealers talking about their exploits beside me.

Few these days, but it was an old traditional name for them years ago.
