Given the current lack of funding available for roads schemes, given the choice would you provide funding for the N6 Galway City bypass or the M20 Cork-Limerick motorway?

Which would you rather see built? The 88 votes

    M20: Cork to Limerick motorway

    N6: Galway city bypass/ring road

Don't build either, spend it on public transport in the capital

Spend the money outside of transport

Both are in real need to be completed. It is impossible to get around Galway at peak times now at least limerick / Cork is moving. So maybe come down on the Galway side. Really we should not have to choose.

    M20

Galway city bypass will relieve some traffic congestion and would be brilliant for me personally, but it won't actually fix Galway's traffic problems.

Connecting our 2nd and 3rd cities to one another is a bigger deal altogether.

    M20 also.

It ticks many good cases for building a big scheme -safety, congestion, interurban travel, regional development.

I'm open to some ways to make the overall M20 scheme cheaper but the GCOB is now far more expensive than originally envisaged and it ticks only one and a half of those boxes in my opinion.

Can a poll be added to the thread?

    M20

Id rather they spent the N6 money on bus only routes in Galway helping people out of the car and onto public transport. Hell you could run it for free for 10 years and still have change from the road bill.

if m20 going back to planning stage. Can park and rides for buses not be incorporated into design at key points?

If the money has to be spent in the next year, then it has to be the N6, as that is nearly ready to go.

I'm really torn on this, as they're both equally important. From a purely selfish point of view, I'd want to see the M20 done because I do Cork-Limerick far more often than I go to Galway. If I was living in Galway (as I used to), I'd totally want the N6 done, the traffic is by far and away the worst aspect of living in the city, as it's a fantastic city in every other way bar the congestion.

Integrate a park and ride with the proposed train station at Monard. Would also benefit the Mallow to Cork commuter route.

and build Cork north ring which I'd put as more important than the 2 mentioned projects.

Galway may be choking in traffic, a self inflicted situation of building heaps of houses on the westside, but all the industrial areas on the other side of the city, but is the situation to build more roads or to make not taking the car more attractive (and I dont mean cycling in the wettest windiest city in Ireland).
