New Fiesta. Deals on current model?

Looking for a bit of advice. Ford will probably be launching the new Fiesta in Ireland early next year. Will there be reductions in price of current models as dealers try to clear stock. Or will they already have low stock levels given that they would have known about the launch for a while. Current Real deal offer expires early December. Will it be extended?

Nobody knows for sure but they just launched a run out model called the ST Line which is basically a Zetec with more sporty bits on it. I'd imagine that you will not see the new Fiesta before March or April of 2017 giving them time to shift stock of the current model. However Ford have been known to heavily discount models especially those ones coming to the end of their life cycle.

In the UK they dropped the base model Fiesta Style about a month ago meaning the new entry model is the more expensive mid range model previously. They did this as they launched the new Ka+ to fill the void left by the old entry level Fiesta and is not too far off it in overall size. They are going to restructure the new Fiesta as the new model will be bigger than the current one.

Mk8 Fiesta apparently being launched Nov next year.

    That's Nov this year.

Release details are announced on Nov 29 but will go on sale during the first half of 2017.

Yup. That's clear now. But announcement now could hit sales of current model coming up to peak selling period. And if it goes on sale here early enough in 2017 dealers could be left with unsold stock of current model.
What I'm wondering is whether dealers have been reducing stock levels in anticipation and whether Ford might give any further discounts to dealers to clear current models.

Unfortunately you will not know that until closer to the on sale date. Ford may well decide to hold back the on sale date until current stock has depleted to a certain point. I guess you could walk into a dealer on Nov 29th or 30th when there is plenty of euphoria around the new model and see what sort of deal they will do on old stock.

Yeah. Might have a better idea of situation after Nov 29th. Don't want to pay now for current model only to see price heavily discounted in Jan or Feb as they clear stock.

Same question. Take real deal for Jan registration or wait to see whether dealers will discount to shift stock of "old" models when new Fiesta arrives in June?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,520 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

There's only so much they can discount them. If you like it buy it :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,360 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

I'd imagine the best time for a deal on the current model is May or June when the 172 registration and new model is arriving in dealerships. However by then you could be stuck with what's left in stock.

Thanks folks. Have a feeling they might be fairly heavily discounted already and that they will be running down stock anyway over next few months so probably not much to be gained by waiting till May/June.

Does the new Ka+ do anything for you? Seems to be similar in dimensions to the existing Fiesta though not as good looking.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 44 Nesser

Nope . It's similar enough to base spec Fiesta which is now discontinued but I think it looks ugly. New Fiesta will be moved up in spec, size and price to make room for it.

Any previews of the new Fiesta? From past experience, they normally discount models that are being phased out but would imagine they will wait until after January 2017 to do that.

They have in the past but may not this time as it might affect sales of the new Ka+. New Fiesta won't be here either for another 6 months so that could give dealers enough time to clear stock without discounting beyond the current REAL DEAL available till end Jan which cuts actual price by about 1K.

New Fiesta is more a "family" car. Google for full specs.

Interior of the new car is a major improvement:

WHY can't they desing the infortaiment screen not to look like glued to the dash last minute?

Certainly no discount deals as of last weekend . Floor mats arent standard which was odd.

Jaysus, that just looks like a facelift.

Exterior looks very similar. Are you sure that's not the one they are selling off as a superior model of the current Fiesta until they unveil a different car, later in 2017?

The current mondeo is very similar to the 07 model too but to be fair is much improved and still competitive. They ran the 89 model Fiesta with a reskin and a good few facelifts up till 2002.
Maybe they're on to something, maybe new cars don't need to be designed from the ground up if the outgoing model was fundamentally very good just dated.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 168 ✭✭Rhinohippo

If the exterior is not changed very much, then people won't be slow to buy the outgoing model, especially if it is in any way discounted,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,360 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

I'd doubt that, the current model has been out since late 2008 and hasn't changed all that much since then. The current one is a popular car so it's only natural that a lot of people who own the current model will want to trade up to the new model rather than buy the same model again. Also the competition in this segment has changed quite a bit in 8 years especially around interior size and packaging. The new one is quite a bit bigger on the inside and the inside design is much more modern.

Surely head up north, with the exchange rate you should get a great deal!

While i agree it looks very similar to the current model, I don't think it's just a facelift to cover a year.

Exterior might look the same because it was very well received (exp. Suzuki Swift Mk II and Mk III - they look virtually identical), but underneath the changes are substantial.

I agree but once the exterior isn't too outdated after the update, regardless of what's under the bonnet, many people would not be as put off as they would be if they bought a new car and it appeared completely outdated within a few months.

You still have Irish vat and vrt though. Would be interesting to see though. I wouldn't assume it's much cheaper given the discounts
One big factor would be the engine choice. The versions we get have less powerful engines.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,360 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

There will be a Vignale version too and asking crazy money for it going by the other Ford Vignale models they have.

The new model is bigger and they are trying to move it upmarket too.

p.s. There's nothing wrong with subtle evolution styling wise assuming the basis was fundamentally good. Porsche 911 is a good example of this.

the larger the engine size, though, the more tax and insurance you are likely to have to pay.

Exactly. The "Irish" Fiesta has a 1.0 litre engine that is only 65ps and non turbo. The brits get a far superior 100ps ecoboost engine. Would be the main reason why someone might get UK Fiesta.

    Definitely makes more sense.

Both of those engines are available here. There's also a 125bhp version.

Only if you are willing to pay an extra €5,000 which brings base price up to €21,350
They are standard options on the UK Fiesta.

    It's never worth that.

Call from a dealer today offering me a higher spec model (titanium vs zetec) for same price as he offered in Nov. Blue only with the crappy 1l 65ps engine but still over 6k off list price with no trade in. Maybe cancelled order? Or are sales figures down on Fiestas? Unlikely to get that much of a discount on new Fiesta in June.

So would it be a 162 or 171?

    171. Am guessing that someone who had paid a deposit pulled out or else they have a lot of unused stock they need to shift. Real Deal discount paid by Ford only applies to cars registered by end Jan. Doubt they will shift much between Feb and when new model arrived in June.

Probably trying to drive Q1 market share and meet dealer targets by pushing current stock. I think they have stopped building the existing Fiesta now (bar the ST) so anything sold will be from existing stock.
