    From their employer no, they can though claim from social welfare.

    Sick pay caries from company to company. Some pay none at all, others more generous. Check out your contract

    Even within companies, the duration of paid sick leave can vary a lot by role.

    Depends on the company! Mine pay 6 months full pay and 6 months half pay before they cut you off!!

    There's not even any statutory entitlement to sick leave, much less sick leave.

    Very uncivilised, IMHO.
