Legality of recording work meetings in Ireland

    Hello,
    For quite some time now I've recorded work meetings without asking for consent from all the members. I do this because I like going through what was said on the meeting because I have a lousy memory and I like to take my time in writing notes. I usually record either through my computer for Skype meetings or through my phone for face-to-face meetings. All of this is done for work and I usually just delete the audio files afterward.
    Since I recently moved to Ireland, I wanted to know if what I am doing is illegal or if I could get in trouble.

    Leaving the legalities aside, it would be frowned upon big time and could be grounds for dismissal.

    Don't do it and don't even think about asking if it's ok to do it.

    I am pretty sure people would have an expectation of privacy in many of these meetings. In addition you could have data protection issues. They may not be too serious if you are the boss but if not they could easily be grounds for dismissal. In addition it is very rude to record a conversation or small meeting and if my colleague did it I would not be happy about it.

    Why? It's common practice in the last place where I worked, we would always notify everyone, not ask their permission.

    If it's company practice and everyone is aware of it then clearly there's no problem but I'm making the wild assumptions that (1) the OP is a mere employee and (2) is working in a company where this does not happen as a matter of routine.

    I am not really asking if this could get me fired. I am asking if this is LEGAL. As long as it's legal I'm cool. I can always find another job, but going to prison might be harder to explain...

    So, is it legal, if I am also participating in those meetings?

    Ireland is a very small country, so getting let go regardless of the reason means that finding another job in the same field can be difficult
