Renault Megane heaters

Hi lads, some advice needed please. I've got a 06 Renault Megane 1.4 petrol. Fan isn't working for the heating so I dropped it to the garage this morning to have them look at it. They rang back a short time later and quoted me €480 + VAT for labour only, never ever priced me for parts. Said the rectifier and fan motor needs replacing. I'm no expert but that seems excessive. Has anyone ever replaced this before and what had to be done to fix this problem ?
    TIA

    Was that a main dealer?

In most cars the fan is under the passenger side of the dash and is usually accessible by undoing a few screws.
New spurious fans are available for around 60 euro and the Rheostat which controls fan speed is probably less than 40.
I can't see how the quote is so high, unless access is very very difficult.

They said the whole dash would have to be removed which would take a full day to do hence 60 x 8 hrs. No not a main dealer quoted me, I'll give them a bell tomorrow just to see. Has anyone ever had a problem like this I wonder ?

I have a similar car and I have been having problems with the fan as well.

The fan has not worked on the highest (4) setting for a year or two (not a big problem).

About 3 weeks ago the fan stopped working completely but after a few days it started working again. So I think I'll have to do something about it soon as the problem is likely to reoccur.

A bit of googling tells me that there is a very common issue with the blowers in these cars. It seems that there is often a fault with the relay or electrical connections for the blower. This is a cheap part and not difficult to replace.

Have you ruled out a similar problem in your case?

I haven't gotten around to trying it on my car yet so I could be wrong but from the video it looks like removing and replacing the glove box to get access to where the fan is should take an experienced mechanic a small fraction of the time that have told you it will take.
